This seven mile sandy beach backed by sand-dunes and Pembrey Forest is perfect for kite-buggying or Kite-mountainboarding. Windsurfing from here could be OK, but its too far to carry all the kit. Currents and shifting sandbars are the main hazards in the water.

Bathing is only recommended in the flagged lifeguard patrolled area. Lifeguards operate from 1st June to September 30th. Warning signs draw the attention of visitors to the dangers caused by sand bars - i.e. strong currents and the possibility of being cut off by incoming tides. The beach is cleaned by the Country Park staff every day from April to September, both manually and by machine. Bins are available, as are dog bins, although dogs are banned from the main 1 mile of beach between May and September.

There are toilets, including facilities for disabled people. There is also a café/restaurant, a first aid post, a lost child centre and a shop selling beach goods.

Swimming, sea canoeing and fishing take place in zoned areas of the beach. The area also hosts local fishing competitions, sandcastle competitions and parakarting and sand yachting events, although there is a temporary ban on landsailing activities at the moment. There are cycle paths and a permanent orienteering course within the Park.

The dunes and surrounding area are designated SSSI's (Sites of Special Scientific Interest). Nature trails exist throughout the Country Park, including the beach. The Saltings area is a local nature reserve. Rare plants and interesting birdlife exist throughout the Park and there are 2 bird hides within the conservation area. On the beach, the strand line is of particular interest to beachcombers.
